Groundbreaking Ceremony - New Town Park

Groundbreaking Ceremony for the New Town Park (11 E. Second Street) was held on September 10th, 2019. During the summer, the Town conducted a "Name the Park" contest which yielded numerous creative ideas and thoughtful suggestions. Many thanks to all who participated. After much consideration, the Board of Commissioners decided on the name "TOWN CENTER PARK"!


Park construction will begin soon and is estimated to be completed prior to the 2020 Summer Season. During the construction phase, Town and Community events normally hosted on this site will be moved to 5 W. Third Street (vacant lot beside Town Hall).


Town Center Park will include: New Outdoor Performance Stage, New Playground, New Interactive Water Fountain, New Restroom Building, Pergola Gathering Areas, New Promenade (Walking Trail), Open Green Space, Bocce Ball Court, Picnic Tables, Benches, Decorative Lighting, Parking, and Landscaping.


The North Carolina Parks and Recreation Authority has approved a grant in the amount of $498,900 from the Parks and Recreation Trust Fund for the construction of the new Park. The Town is also offering Sponsorship opportunities for Park Amenities for the purpose of raising additional revenues for the procurement and installation of park amenities.
